
ESSENTIALS OF MANTRA SADHANA

There are elaborate discription about MANTRA and MANTRA SADHANA in various oriental texts available. In short i am intended to explore the meaning of Mantra.
MANTRA is specific collective vibration of sounds through which SADHAKA tried to influence the celestial world in accordance with ability of SADHANA. The sound form of a particluar deity is MANTRA or in other words the micro cosmic form of a deity is manifested by MANTRA The base of MANTRA is science of sound DHWANI VIJNANA; Effect of sound has ability to sensitize each and every particle. Therefore we can say that minute and systematic form of sound represented by specific words is called MANTRA.
But there are certain rules which are essentially followed by SADHAKA in the process of performing MANTRA SADHANA and to attain adequate results. According to MAHARTHA MANJARI
मननत्राण धर्माणो मंत्र
MANTRA are sounds of those words which are of the use of Chintana-Manan or thoughtfullness. We can call it SHABDA BRAHAMA. When we multiply oun inner energy with power of sound the net resultant is MANTRA.
Performance of MANTRA SADHANA involves specific stages systematically and SADHAKA requires to remain very careful about the subsequent commencement of all stages to obtain appropriate results. One thing we should keep in our mind that only that process is called SADHAN which will prove helpful for the SADHAKA to obtain the result otherwise that is not SADHAN.
In MANTRA GRANTHAS these essentials are mentioned and i will deal with them one by one systematically.
There are certain TANTRIK terminology
which one cannot translate literaly in english. So kindly try to understand in this Context.
SIDDHADI SHODHAN.- Certain questions exists for SADHAKA as to which MANTRA is not acceptable or which one will prove helpful to get SIDDHI or perfection. In this process we sould consider KULAKULA VICHAR, SIDDH,SUSIDDH and SHATRU VICHAR. With the help of KULAKULA CHAKRA, AKADAMA CHAKRA, AKATHAHA CHAKRA, NAKSHATRA CHAKRA
SADHAKA select appropriate MANTRA for him. This is called SIDDHADI SHODHAN. Like marriage compatibility . This is importent to know the sincronized relationship between MANTRA and SADHAKA other wise this will prove harmfull for SADHAKA.
There is one dictum that there is no enemny like MANTRA .
नास्तिमंत्र समो रिपुः
MANTRA is like dangerous weapon which can cause great harm to SADHAKA if rules are not followed accurately.
There are certain exceptions in which SIDDHADI SHODHAN is not required. There is no need to do this SHODHAN in the matter of EKAKSHAR MANTRA (1 Word). TRAYKSHAR MANTRA (3 Word), PANCHAKSHAR MANTRA (5 word), SHADAKSHAR MANTRA (6 Word), SAPTAKSHAR mantra (7 word), ASHTAKSHAR MANTRA (8 word), NAVAKSHAR MANTRA (9 word), EKADASHAKSHAR MANTRA (11 word), hamsa mantra, koot mantra, vedokta, mantra (MANTRA according to VEDA), PRANAVA, MALA MANTRA, NRASINGHA, MANTRA, PRASAD ( हौ`), RAVIMANTRA, VARAHA MANTRA, MATRIKA MANTRA, PARA TRIPURA, KAMA, GARUD, BAUDDH and JAINA MANTRA.
Apart from this according to TRAYLOKYA MOHAN and BRIHAD GAUTAMIYA there is no need of SIDDHADI SHODHAN in all mantras related with Lord KRISHNA.
न चात्र शात्रवा दोषा नर्णस्वादि विचारणा ऋक्षराशि विचारो वा न कर्तव्या मनौ प्रिये ।। (त्रैलोक्य मोहन)
सिद्ध साध्यसुसिद्धारिरुपा नात्र विचारणा

MANTRARTHA – The MANTRA are not merely the words. They indicate the real form of specific deity. If SADHAKA has proper knowledge about the real meaning of MANTRA then the performance about MANTRA will give concrete results in context of fulfillment of specific object. The words of MANTRA has secret language and this language should be clear before SADHAKA.
In MANTRA YOGA, as mentioned by PATANJALI, the feeling of MANTRA meaning is called Japa and this experience of Japa is the main root cause of SIDDHI.
I am giving same examples in this context.
ऐं — ऐ = goddess SARASVATI
• (BINDU) Release of greaf .
So the meaning is goddess SARASVATI may remove my greaf.
दूं – दू = Goddess DURGA
• (BINDU) Removal of greaf
Thus this DURGA BEEJA has meaning that Goddess DURGA may remove my greaf.
Like this SADHAKA should know the meaning of other MANTRA before entering in the field of SADHANA.
MANTRA CHYTANYA.– It means revival of the effectiveness of MANTRA. This is sphote of SHABDA BRAHMA. In other words it means evolvement of ARTHA (meaning). This evolvementis through vibration (Spandan). We can call this spandan SHABDA RUPA also. So CHYTANYA (चैतन्य) SPANDAN (स्पंदन) is originally SHABDA BRAHMA or SAGUNA BRAHMA. This is the original from of MANTRA also and in this very meaning MANTRA, Deity and Guru assimillate themselves which is necessary in MANTRA SADHANA. Thus this is importent to evolve BRAMHA BHAVA for SADHAKA Who is initiating in SADHANA. SADHAKA should not mistaken to understand MANTRA merely as words. I am mentioning two methods for this.
(a) When we arrange SAMPUT for the Japa of MANTRA then MANTRA will Chytanya. When we put (ॐ)on both sides of MANTRA then we can say MANTRA is SAMPUTITA by (ॐ) or MANTRA is befixed (ॐ), like
ॐ नमः शिवाय ॐ.
So according to process if we resite MULA MANTRA samputita by ‘ई’ Eee then we can say MANTRA is Chytanya.
(b) We can put the MANTRA between KAMA Beej (क्लीं ) SHREE Beej (श्रीं ). MAYA Beej ( ह्रीं ) and resite on rosary 108 times. Thus the MANTRA will revive or Chytanya .
KULLUKA OF MANTRA — There are indications in RUDRA YAMALA TANTRA Without knowing KULLUKA SADHAKA entered in SADHANA, he will loose his strength and force . So SADHAKA should know the specific KULLUKA related to the SADHAN MANTRA . This fact is confirmed by VARAHI SAMHITA.
I am mentioning some KULLUKAS related with deities .
Lakshmi (goddess of Prosperity)= ॐ श्रीं
Sarasvati (Goddess of Wisdom) = ॐ ऐं
Tripur Sundari = क्लीं or ॐ क्लीं ह्रीं त्रिपुर भगवति स्वाहा
MANTRA SETU-The beej which helps SADHAKA to establish inner relationship with MANTRA is called SETU . Before starting MANTRA SADHAN Japa of SETU MANTRA is required. Normally for most of the MANTRAS PRANAVA( ॐ ) is used as SETU . After the Japa of SETU SADHAKA is entitled to resite the TANTRIK MANTRA.
MAHA SETU—
After that MAHA SETU MANTRA is essential to resite. This process gives right to SADHAKA for Japa at all times & stages. MAHA SETU of KALIKA, TARA, TRIPUR SUNDARI are as followes क्रीं हूं, ह्रीं For other deities MAHA SETU is स्त्रीं .
NIRVANA-
In this stage MANTRA should be betfixed PRANAVA (ॐ) and MATRIKA and Japa starts after. By this process SADHAKA experience inner form of MANTRA and MANTRA revives or Jagrata.
MUKH SHODHAN–
Literal meaning of this is to brush up the mouth. But inherent meaning is to remove the bad effects of abuses, harsh speech, untruthfullness from inner Conscious. With out this cleanzing if any one tries to Japa then he will suffer in place of SIDDHI. Under the process the Japa of MUKH SHODHAN MANTRA ten times in accordance with the specific deity of SADHAN MANTRA is required. The Common MANTRA for different deities is PRANAVA (ॐ) but some have different MANTRA. The
MANTRA for Lakshmi, Ganesh, Matangi are in same
order-
ॐ श्रीं, ॐ गं, ॐ ऐं
PRAN YOGA– Without the soul body cannot work. Without current there is no light. Like this only PRANA YUKTA MANTRA will prove fruitfull. When we SAMPUTITA Mula MANTRA with MAYA Beej ह्रीं and recite 7 times then the process is called PRANA YOGA. This is mentioned in VARAHI SAMHITA .
माया बीजेन पुटित मूलमंत्र जपेत्सुधी सप्तवार जपात्पूर्व
प्राण योगरुदीरितः ।
DEEPANI-Light provides us the ability to see. DEEPANI KRIYA explains the same thing in MANTRA SADHANA. In this process required for SADHAKA to recite PRANAVA SAMPUTITA Mula MANTRA 7 times then the MANTRA enlightned or Pradeepta. According to our scriptures even through one MANTRA we can acquire various SIDDHIES and results.
प्रणवेन मूलमंत्रस्य पुटितस्य परमेश्वरी l सप्तवारं जप संदीपनी विद्याखिलार्थदा।
MANTRA SUTAK.—-
There are two types of SUTAKAS exist in MANTRA-
(1) JATA SUTAK
(2) MRIT SUTAK. Without nullifying these SUTAKAS one can not perfect himself in that particular MANTRA. So for the elimination of these DOSHAS SADHAKA should recite 108 or 7 times PRANAVA SAMPUTITA Mula MANTRA before the commencement of Japa and after the complition of Japa SADHANA.
MANTRA DOSHA.-
There are certain Doshas of MANTRA according to our texts,
There are same Doshas are as followes-lack of devotion in MANTRA (ABHAKTI), gramatical error, omission of certain word, to explain SADHANA MANTRA before any one even in sleeping stage etc. SADHAKA should avoid all these things. There are certain measures to eradicate these Doshas. To evolve the devotion towards MANTRA will remove the ABHAKTI DOSHA. As for as gramatical mistakes are concern SADHAKA should get that very MANTRA again from his preceptor or GURU. Except all these there are ten SAMSAKARAS (rites) Which are essential to remove the Doshas.
JANAN. -Write Janan Yantra by red sandal wood and Gorochan on Bhoj Patra. One should make avahana and worship the Goddess MATRIKA DEVI and (Uddhar) enchant each and every word of the MANTRA on another Bhoj Patra. Subsequently MANTRA should be written in refined form.
DEEPAN
Recitation of HAMSA MANTRA SAMPUTITA Mula MANTRA by SADHAKA 1000 times is called DEEPAN SAMSKARA.
FOR EXAM:-
हंसः रामाय नमः सोऽहम् BODHAN.-Beej samputita Mula MANTRA should be recited 5000 times called
BODHAN SAMSKARA.
(हूँ रामाय नमः हूँ)
TADAN.-This is usefull to recite Mula MANTRA SAMPUTITA by 1000 times.
फट् रामाय नमः फट्
ABHISHEKA SADHAKA Must write his SADHAMA MANTRA on Bhoj Patra. Abhimantraise the holy water for 1000 times by:
ऐं हंसः ॐ
MANTRA. Subsequenty ones MANTRA must be solemnised by this holy water. VIMALIKARAN-Mula MANTRA Samputita by ओं त्रों वषट् should be recited by SADHAKA 1000 times.
ओं त्रों वषट् रामाय नमः वषट् त्रों औ
TARPAN. With the help of milk, ghee, huney or water SADHAKA should perform
TARPAN by his Mula MANTRA 100 times.
GOPAN-Recitation of MAYA Beej samputita Mula MANTRA 1000 times is called GOPAN.
ह्रीं रामाय नमः ह्रीं
APYAYANA-Japa of हसौः Beej samputita Mula MANTRA 1000 times is required by SADHAKA.

There are so many things which are required to fortify the process of MANTRA SADHANA But things mentioned above are most essential for SADHAKA. Other requirements can be fullfilled by SADHAKA through the able guidance of his preceptor or GURU.
